Tube Strike - any suggestions

I'm new here and I read the post about the tube strike. I'm a bit worried because I will be getting into Euston Rail station from Scotland on the night of Nov 2nd, and not sure what to do. Can anyone tell me the best way to get to Earls court from there? I thought about the Bus but with a suitcase and crowding is that feasible? Then I thought a Cab but does anyone think I'll be able to get one during this time? Any Suggestions would be very helpful, especially by people who have delt with it before. I am hoping for the best but just in case I thought I'd ask. Thanks so much. Su

The strike is a 24-hour strike that, on that day, begins at 5pm and 9pm London time, depending on which union is involved. So, because the first union goes out at 5pm on Nov 1, and the second union doesn't come back to work until 9pm on Nov 2, it's a bit more than a 24-hour strike. So, if you arrive at Euston after 9pm on Nov 2, the Tube should be up and running. Remember, too, that Tube management will very likely try to keep some lines in operation, so maybe you'll be lucky. Some Londoners in another thread warned that alternative transportation will be busy during these strikes. That said, the Euston, St. Pancras and King's Cross rail stations (they're pretty much adjacent) usually have lots of taxis queued up waiting for passengers. I doubt the drivers will abandon the stations. I would just follow the signs in Euston to the taxi rank and wait your turn. Or, you could just wait till after 9pm and take the Tube.

Practical answer is to aim at getting a cab. last time we were caught in a lightning strike the tube stopped one or two stations BEFORE they got to the Railway stations- which is where we wanted to go. They know how to make it most difficult for the public. I dont ever remember not being able to get a taxi.

The last time I was faced with the strike situation, I cancelled my hotel reservation and made another for a hotel that would be easier and cheaper to get to from the train station. Could you stay at a hotel within walking distance of Euston Station?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think I'll plan on taking a cab then. I just wasn't sure if there would be any. I thought they would be busy somewhere else, like on New Years Eve you can never find one. Also Thank you for suggesting booking a different hotel. It didn't even cross my mind to do that, but it also might be an option. Thanks again

Cabs are available - but traffic can and will be standing still. All those tube riders are still getting around. Give yourself WAY more time to get somewhere.
