Trondheim to Stockholm

Has anyone out there taken the train from Trondheim to Stockholm? I'm having a difficult time getting timetable type info on it. Neither NSB nor Swedish Rail has a direct train, so I'm trying to figure out how long it will take and how many train changes (and where). My DH and I will be in Scandinavia this coming June

The best site for European rail schedules is the German rail website at bahn.de (switch to English at the top center). A quick check shows three daytime trains, all leaving just after 8 am and taking between 11 and 14 hours with one or two changes. There's also one overnight train by the looks of it, which has a second-class sleeping car.

Bitta,

I haven't been as far north as Trondheim, but you might try using the Deutsche Bahn website for planning. One thing nice about the DB site is that after you search, you can see all the places where you will have to change trains as well as all the intermediate stops.

Another idea is take the Coastal Steamer from Trondheim to Bergan which is a beautiful trip and only takes a couple days. It leaves Trondheim every day and cruises some fantastic scenery stopping at several towns where you can get off the boat and explore. Then the train from Bergan to Stockholm is easy.

Hello Britta. I travelled in Norway and Sweden, in May of 2007. I recommend : travel in a train from Trondheim to Oslo, and stay overnight at a hotel in Oslo. The next day, travel in an Express train from Oslo to Stockholm. Get reserved seats for all long distance train travel in Norway and Sweden.
