hi, we are planning on spending 2 days in wales (during an overall trip to england/wales). what would you recommend most? I was originally thinking about just going to south wales, but the north part sounds more beautiful and interesting. Your thoughts? Also, how long does it take to drive from Bath to the north side of Wales?
I don't think you can see much in two days. It will take you time to drive to a destination. Where will you be leaving from? We drove Bath to Broadway, spent a couple days touring then drove to Wales(Llangollen and Betws-y-Coed. From Betws-y-Coed to Liverpool it took us about 4 hours to drive. We were in morning traffic and it was raining with some construction work...
We stayed outside Dilwyn and drove the road for the Black and White villages going through Woebley. What villages/towns are you interested in? How many days is your total trip? The driving time depends on how many times you stop, what the traffic is like, what route you take. Look at your map and decide what towns you want to get to.
We will be making our 3rd trip to Wales in August. We've been in the north (Conwy) and then south from there. It is pretty country. This year we will be going to Hay-on-Wye and then through the Brecon's to Cardiff. Never been to Hay-on-Wye, so can't comment on that, but we liked Cardiff enough to go back again. It's not beautiful around there like in the north (in my opinion), but it's very nice with interesting sites.
From Bath it is an easy train trip to Cardiff. That would make a nice 2 or 3 day stop. Lots of shopping, the castle, the harbor area, slate mines, etc.
