- London - got a B&B just outside of the Victoria Rail station. This is a good thing. Everywhere you could want to go in London is reachable from this point. I stayed at the Jubilee hotel with about a 5 to 10 minute stroll from the station. Nice place, includes breakfast. No elevator, so if you have problems with stairs, see if the ground floor room is available. My wife has had back and knee surgery, and after the first night on the 3rd floor, we asked if anything was available lower. Luckily it was, and during the rest of the stay, being able to schelp in and not have to take any stairs was wonderful. There is a food court at Victoria, and lots of small cafe type places all within a few blocks. There was a Sainsburies in Victoria as well, and that was the best food buy we could find. Went and did all the usual touristy things, but was VERY impressed by the Imperial War Museum. Thought it would be a couple of hours, was there for almost 5, still didn't see everything. There is also another Dr. Who/Torchwood exhibition at Earls Court, and it was larger and better organized than the one in Cardiff, which made us both happy for that, and sad for Cardiff. You would think that Cardiff (where they're being filmed) would be the better one.
Had a good time overall, 3rd trip to England and have figured out the tube/bus thing in London finally. Tried the "one-bag" idea, and discovered that it doesn't cover things you buy, and luggage (despite charges by predatory airlines) is still the cheapest way to bring home the goodies.
Cheers! (Next trip summer 2010)
