Any suggestions on reducing airfares to London for June? I've tried looking at flights to Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam...and am seeing mostly $1300 or more from the west coast. In the past the flights have been about $900. I know the Olympics are an issue, so this may be hopeless but just wondered if anyone had any tricky itinerary suggestions...thanks. Suzanne

You should check Air Berlin into either Berlin or Dusseldorf. I don't know the roundtrip, but I got a really great deal on them on a one way ticket to LAX. Then you can get really inexpensive flights between Germany & London. Check bravofly.com.
I'd look at flying into another UK airport (Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, etc.) then taking the train to London if that is where you are heading. Or fly into Paris and take the Eurostar.
If you haven't already, go to kayak.com and put an alert on fares to London. I typically do this for my destination in early January and watch the fares until they either drop or I decide I don't want to wait any longer. You can set it up to get an email everyday and it will show you the difference in price from the prior day as well as the trend. I do this every year. Some years there is little movement. Last year, the price of my flight dropped $300 in mid-January and I grabbed it then. June is tricky since you are travelling in peak season.
Check Virgin or British Airways out of Las Vegas, doubt you will find flights for less than $1,000 in June. I do highly sugggest a non-stop flight on a non American airline. :)
Have you considered "breaking" your trip? By that I mean, have you thought about flying to an east coast city, spending one night, then flying on the Europe? USAir sometimes has very good rates out of Charlotte (and ther are more European desitnations from there now, also). They also have a direct flight from San Diego now. I'd also check flights out of NY, Philidelphia, Miami and Atlanta. Check all airlines- American, Delta, USAir, British Air, etc. I'd also try leaving on a Tuesday or Wednesday- they seem to have the cheapest fares.
Icelandair flies from a lot of US cities (but not in southern CA) with low rates to Heathrow, Manchester, and Glasgow, if you're willing to change in Reykjavik. For example, there's a 4:30 PM flight from Seattle that lands in Reykjavik around 7 AM, with an easy connection to Manchester about an hour later, arriving mid-morning. The Reykjavik airport is small and well-organized for these quick transfers. (If you want to see Iceland there's no added fare for staying over.) There are lots of flights between San Diego and Seattle, try Alaska Airlines for a good deal, or you could aim for Minneapolis, Chicago, or somewhere else in US based on cost and schedule. See www.icelandair.us for more. We've enjoyed the flights, but can't speak to the return trips because twice they've had to cancel due to volcanoes in Iceland (coincidence we hope). They have rebooked us on long-haul flights at no cost. Good luck.
SuzieQQ, Although I realize this doesn't help you flying from San Diego, I found some cheap YVR / LGW flights for $918 (including taxes) with departures in June. The prices vary according to specific date, but that's a "ballpark figure". Check This Airline for the details. Good luck and happy travels!
