Traveling through Norway- need advice

Hi there, we are planning a trip to Scandinavia next summer for 9 people. We are looking to spend a few days visiting the fjords but I'm having problem with the transportation options. I don't mind renting cars if necessary. We would like to see GeirangerFjord and Sognefjord. I'm thinking of flying to Alesund and driving to Valldal. Then we would ferry to Geiranger and drive south towards Balestrand. I can't find anywhere to return the cars on this end though. Any advice or other transportation ideas?
Thanks!

Why not take the ferry across the Sognefjord, see the Vik stave church, maybe detour over to Flam and take the train RT. Continue on to Voss (gorgeous drive to get there) then to Bergen, where you can easily return your car at the airport? We did most of your trip, but made it a RT from Bergen.

Take alot of krones-Norway is very expensive. Probably renting a car would be best since transportation is very expensive. Google your question and some web sites will come up.

Where will you be going after Balestrand? You may need to head toward a larger place like Bergen or Oslo to drop off the car.

Hello Janine. I do not recommend driving a car in Norway. And, for nine people, two cars would be needed. The cars are small. Five people and their baggage in one car would be uncomfortable. If you go to Balestrand at the Sognefjord, I think going to the Geirangerfjord is not important. Acquiring airline tickets for a flight to Alesund for nine people would be very difficult. People liked being at Alesund, but Bergen is similar to Alesund. When I went to Norway, I flew to the airport of Bergen. A fast boat goes from Bergen, north on the Atlantic Ocean to the Sognefjord to Balestrand. A fast boat goes from Balestrand to Flam (at the south end of the Aurlandfjord). The train ride up hill from Flam to Myrdal is very scenic. And ride in a railroad train from Myrdal to either Bergen or Oslo. I think the best travel guide book on Norway is "Rough Guide to Norway" by Phil Lee.
