We are going to Cliffs of Moher and The Burren from Dingle. Afterward we're thinking of driving through Connemara and County Mayo. This will be our last night to spend in Ireland after the long day of driving. Is it advisable to go up to Derry or is there a better town to visit (not Galway)?
Do I understand correctly that you are driving to the Burren from Dingle and then want to go on up to Derry for that night? No way. It will be about a four hour drive to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren from Dingle, even if you take the Killimer-Tarbert ferry. From, say, Doolin to Derry it will be another five and a half hours at least. That is without any sightseeing time at all anywhere along the way. You would get to Derry late - when would you have time to see anything there? Do you fly out the next day? You should head for Dublin after the Burren and get as far as you feel comfortable that night so that you don't have so far to go in the morning.
I agree that it would be way too much driving in one day. Plus, Derry is a fascinating city that deserves more time than that. I just returned from Ireland and had a great time in Galway City - great pubs and people watching. I'm not sure which airport you're departing from (Shannon or Dublin) so I'm not sure which city to recommend for your final night.
Thanks for the valued advice! I was afraid we were biting off more than we could chew on this last day/night and are glad to hear your thoughts. Also, glad to know that Derry is a great city to visit.
