I will be in London this summer with my daughter and will want to purchase 3 – 1 day Travelcards at a National Rail station to take advantage of the half-price offers. Here is my question: do I have to go to the National Rail station on the three days I want to use the Travelcard and buy it each day (not very convenient), or can I go once, buy the Travelcards for the 3 separate days and then just use them on the tube on those days?
I was in London lst month and bought 3-1day travel cards at Victoria. They each had a date.Ask for the booklet that shows discounts as they can savesome money.
From what I've seen on TripAdvisor- the discounts are NOT half-price. They are true 2 or 1- ie you MUST have 2 people. They won't cut a single price in half for you if you are alone. Just thought you'd want to know.
"Just make sure you want to visit the places the Travelcard covers"
Are you confusing the Travelcard with the London Pass? It is a transport pass issued by the national rail companies but useable on all London's transport and gives discounts for entry to places like the Tower of London, the London Eye or Hampton Court Palace. The daily cap on the Oyster card is the same as the daily cost of a Travelcard.
I think it is the Travelcard - the two for one offers (not half-price - thanks!) are posted at http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/ and refer to the Travelcard. Am I wrong about that?
You are correct, Kelly. You should be able to get 1 day Travelcards for all three days at one go unless you get an uncooperative clerk. Try another clerk if need be. For an easier look at all the London Days Out offers, although cluttered with a London Pass comparison, see http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g186338-i17-k3509781-London_Pass_Days_Out_Worksheet_thru_September_2010-London_England.html and its accompanying Google spreadsheet http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApAT6ZYPYl1ndFVwOUxpMVl5NHZITHI1NFJyQlBNSHc&hl=en#gid=0 .
Kelly - sorry, my post was not aimed at you but at the post that queried the usefulness of the Travelcard.
