TravelCard and 2 for 1

I'm traveling with my niece, who will have an under 18 ID card that should get 1/2 price transport prices. I heard if you buy a paper 7 day travelcard from a rail station (would Heathrow have one? or is there a list), you qualify for the 2 for 1 admission to several places. Normally, I get a 7 day travelcard loaded onto an Oyster Card. But I'm interested in any experiences folks have with the 2 for 1 offered by the rail folks. I already registered, but not sure how to get the paper rail ticket/ tube 7 day travelcard (I'll be in London zones -1-2 mostly...other than a trip to Windsor and the trip in/back to Heathrow.

Thanks!

While the Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect trains serve the airport, there is no National Rail station there.

Here are two options for your consideration:

  1. Buy Oyster cards, load some pounds on them, and use them as pay-as-you-go cards. The Oyster computer will compute your fare and automatically give you the best one. You'll never pay more than 50 pence less than the cost of a one-day travelcard for the zones in which you travel that day, no matter how many rides you take. Buy one-day, zone 1-2 paper travelcards from a National Rail station for each day you plan to take advantage of the National Rail 2-for-1 offers. Don't use your Oyster cards on those days. Top off your Oyster cards, if necessary. When you return to Heathrow you can get a refund of any money you loaded but didn't spend, plus the deposit.

  2. Pay cash to get from LHR to London and back and to Windsor and back. Buy seven-day, zone 1-2 paper travelcards from a National Rail station after you get into London and use them every day.

Go here to see the 2-for-1 offers and to print vouchers to take with you.

You can buy a paper seven day travelcard (Zones 1
& 2) from any national railway station ie not a Tube station. It is good for travel on the tube (zones 1& 2) and buses (all zones) and you can add an "excess" fare from the end of Zone 2 to Windsor for the rail tkt for that trip.

I understand that you cannot buy these tickets at Heathrow but have to wait until you get into London.
Link for information from the Transport for London site. Also useful for journey planning.
