May we take our 16 year old niece to the UK? Any special documents needed?
Hi Lentz,
When I escorted by grandchildren from USA to UK to visit their father I took a notarized letter from my daughter giving me permission to take them out of the country just in case I needed it, which I did not get asked for. However with child custody disputes being in the news recently I would check with a travel agent to see if they have a form that can be used. Hope this helps and have a great trip.
While having a letter isn't a bad idea, a 16 year old will be traveling on an adult passport, and she will be treated as an adult. She would presumably be able to speak to authorities herself if she were being taken against her will. No one will even question it, but if it makes you feel more secure, take a letter.
I really don't think you need anything-we took our 11 year old grandson through Europe, including the UK and the only thing we brought with us(other than his passport) was a noterized document in case we needed to have medical treatment.
Thanks everyone for the information. The idea of a notarized letter authorizing medical treatment is helpful.
In a life-threatening event, medical personnel would treat her anyway, whether there was a letter or not. But having one for more common medical issues would be a good idea.
