We leave in weeks for 19 day trip to Ireland. We arrive in Dublin and have three days to travel the south and west before meeting up family for a two week stay in County Down at a rented cottage. We plan to do day trips from that location. I need to know if we should attempt to book accomodations for the first three days in the south or just figure out where to stay as we go. Looking for suggestions for must see sights as well as family friendly place to stay.

Since you don't say where you intend to go in the south it's tough to give recommendations. Unless you are going in the height of tourist season it shouldn't be hard to book as you go. That's what I always do.

I'd make your reservations now. It's not that easy finding rooms for more than 2 people, and places fill up fast. I'd rather have less flexibility than be wandering around looking for a place to stay with tired kids in tow.
