Travel through Heathrow

We are planning to fly Amsterdam to London arriving at 7:35. We need to reach Euston Station by 9:40 to catch a train on to Shrewsbury. Is two hours enough time to get through Heathrow and on to Euston to make our connection?

Thank you. Tony

If you aren't checking baggage yes it's "probably" ok. Remember flights are OFTEN late on takeoff AND connecting with the landing gate (ever been in a terminal - pardon the pun - holding pattern at Heathrow). Then there's tube delays etc. Me, I'd give myself another hour. I just don't need the hassle in my life anymore.

Depends on how much of a gambler you are.....Personally, I wouldn't trust it. I'd take a later train.

Worse comes to worse, and I was able to make it ontime, I'd either try to get on the earlier train, or considering the time, get a coffee and a scone.

If you use the below Transport for London site's journey planner it should help you decide. Make sure you enter the correct arrival terminal because that will make a difference to your journey time. And the time given will depend on everything working like clockwork.

IMO it is very tight if not impossible. All you need is a hold up at immigration or baggage claim. Plus, if it's a weekday you will be travelling at a busy time of the day, the world and his wife will be getting in your way. Give yourself a break and get the next train.

I personally wouldn´t risk it. In the unlikey event of the plane landing on time, it frequently takes a long time to get to the gate and to get into the terminal, regardless of any holdups with passport control or luggage colletion. It has often taken me 30 mins beyoned the time landed to get into the terminal proper.

I realise this is unhelpful, but Heathrow in general is a nightmare.

To clarify a bit. Our end destinatin is Portmeirion and according to train timetables it is an all day trip, leaving Euston at 9:40 and arriving Minfford around 5 pm. We didn't want to arrive much later at Portmeirion.

Perhaps it would be better to fly out of AMS later on Wednesday, get to a hotel near Euston and then make the day trip to Portmeirion under less pressure.

Thanks for the replies, just the kind of input we needed.

Your updated plan is a good one...less stress and you get an evening in London.

Or, here's one for you....BMIBaby flies from AMS to Birmingham (BHX) and Easyjet flies from AMS to Liverpool (LPL). This may be better for you than going through London (you'll have to check the train schedules.)

Fying to Birmingham is a good idea, you will be able to get a train to Minffordd from Birmingham International railway station The station is 500ms from the airport terminal and takes 2 minutes by the free link service.
