I have never bought travel insurance because we've never taken a very expensive trip. Any opinions and advice on which company to use and what to buy would be great. We are traveling in December to Wales, England and Ireland with our 2 adult daughters and will be renting a car for a large portion of the trip.

I'm a member of my local AAA, and got mine through them. They had a special for members of an organization I belong to, and for $100 I got a year of unlimited trips, 5,000,000 medical, evacuation, cancellations and interruption, glasses/dental, coverage to put me up for a night if something is delayed or cancelled, and $$$ if luggage is late or vanishes. Well worth the $100 Canadian for the year. Just means peace of mind.
I've never purchased cancellation coverage, but I never leave the country without medical/evacuation coverage. For example should you suffer a sever leg break, and need special seating in an Airplane to get you home, those charges start at $20,00USD.
