I am going to be traveling with my husband in business in Cork, Ireland. Does anyone have any ideas for local things to do? I won't have a car, and we'll be there the week of 3/5 - 3/12. We could do a day trip one day, but most things need to be within an hour or so of Cork.
Cork was chosen European City of Culture a few years back. There are lots of museums and art galleries. Visit the English Market. Blarney is just on the outskirts, and Cobh is a few miles away, with its Queenstown Story museum. Within a few miles are the Jameson Distillery at Midleton, and Kinsale, a center of Irish cuisine.
Read this book: Jaywalking with the Irish http://www.amazon.com/Jaywalking-Irish-David-Monagan/dp/1740595971 The American author moved his family to Cork. Lots interesting insights into the Irish. It isn't a travel book per se, but he talks about lots of day trips. I loved this book, especially for how he tackled the relationship of the Irish with Irish Americans (not always pretty).
