We will travel to Europe by ship this summer and will have about 4 days in Bergen, St Petersburg, Denmark, Antwerp, Naples, Istanbul, Piraeus and Dubrovnik. I like independent day travel by local bus or train. No hotels required. would love to hear some helpful and fun information. thanx
Greetings!
I assume the cruise company is handling any visas - you would almost certainly need visas to go ashore in Russia and Turkey.
Where in Denmark - Copenhagen? Copenhagen is easy to explore by foot. Generally you can either take a bus or train or walk from where the cruise ships dock to just about anywhere. The city centre is very compact, so the tourist sites are all within walking distance.
There are some great art museums - Ny Carlesberg Glyptotek, Thorvaldsen's Museum and the National Museum for Kunst. And then there's the palaces - Rosenborg, Christianborg and Amalienborg. Plus, in season, Tivoli.
You can also go out by train to take day trips to Roskilde, Lousiana Art Museum, Frederiksborg Palace and Kronborg Palace.

Thank you for answering my question. Actually I do not think we are docking in Kopenhagen and that is why I put Denmark! I think it could be a small place called Korsor which is about 90 minutes from Kopenhagen! I guess Kopenhagen if filled with cruise ships and we have to go elsewhere! I am not on a regular cruise ship but cannot explain on this web site as that might be called advertising but it is an educational vessel.

Speak to the facilitators before you depart about your Russia visa. If you are with a private tour company such as
DenRus or Red October they will cover the visa but you need to stay with your guide at all times. If you want to wander on your own, you will need to get a visa before you leave. I've been to Russia 3 times and they will NOT let you off the ship without being convered with your own visa or a tour guides..Also, carry all medicines in your prescription bottles while you are in Russia.
For CPH get a CPH card at the Tourist Info across from Tivoli also do the HOHO busses they will take you everywhere, no tours needed
Once in Antwerp, you MUST go to Brugge, Brussels is fine go see the little pissing guy who's overated, the museum with the pissing guys outfits and town square wander a bit and then head to Brugge, which you can do on your own, dont forget to climb the tower, eat frites, chocolate and waffles, then climb the tower again to wear it all off!!! hahahaha trains are easy no tours needed
part 2
Naples you will probably be docked close to the Capri ferry so you can do that on your own. Theres a great church St. Michael that you MUST go see the floor there. If you can drink...beer in Brugges and Limoncello in Capri...within moderation of course! You might want to take a tour to Pompeii and Herculaneum
while in dubrovnik have a group of you hire a driver and go to Mostar and Montenegro...see helpline east for more info on that.
greece later....love your itinerary...this is truly a once in a lifetime adventure, avoid any drama that close quarters can cause, and immerse yourself in Europe!
