travel from Dublin to Dingle

My extended family is converging on the Dingle peninsula next week. I'm flying into Shannon and renting a car but some of them are traveling from Dublin to Dingle where we'll meet. It looks like the train only goes as far as Tralee. But I'm having trouble figuring out the bus website to finish the final leg. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also at this point in time, is there a benefit to booking the train tickets online? most of them will be getting into Dublin on 14 June. Thanks.

Even at this late date it will be to your family's advantage to book Dublin-Tralee on the Irish Rail site.

I checked a few dates and the Web fare ranged from 10 to 36 euro. The walk-up fare is 68 euro.

thanks for the information. which train station is most convenient from the airport? it looks like I have a choice but I don't know the logistics. would they have to take DART or a bus into city center for the train?

All trains to Tralee leave from Hueston Station. DART does not go to the airport. Airlink Bus #748 goes directly from the airport to Hueston. Buses run every 30 minutes and the fare is €6.00.

Thanks so much for all the great information. But in checking the Irish rail site, I couldn't find any special fares from Dublin to Tralee. is there another site that offers discounts? the only web special was to muine bheag. I'm pretty sure that's not Tralee. thanks again for any info.

Booking directly with Irish Rail is the only way I know of to get discount fares.

Here's what I found for 14 June by simply going through the standard booking process:

36 EUR for trains departing at 07:00 and 15:00

20 EUR for trains departing at 09:00, 11:00, and 13:00

thank you for all of your help, i made the reservations then emailed my son. he pointed out that they might not get to the station on time. One final question: do you know what they policy is for a missed train? do they let you take the next one if there's room with that ticket or would they have to buy another one? i can't find the answer on the web site. thanks so much!
