What is the best route from amsterdam to paris and on to rue cler via metro or bus?
The fastest route is the Thalys train from Amsterdam Central Station to Paris Gare du Nord, runs every two hours and takes about 3 1/4 hours, see http://www.thalys.com/fr/en/. From Gare du Nord, take the #4 metro (toward Porte d'Orleans) to the third stop, Strasbourg St-Denis. Change there to the #8 (toward Balard) and get off at the 9th stop, Ecole Militaire. See the map at http://parisbytrain.com/files/2008/06/metro.pdf. You'll exit the metro on Avenue de la Motte-Picquet. At the top of the stairs you'll be facing a busy intersection. Turn around and walk away from the intersection, about a block to Rue Cler, which will be the first street on your left. If in doubt, ask someone which way. There's also a bus from Amsterdam to Paris, costing much less but taking much longer. I don't know any more about it but Google is a good place to start looking.
Joe, The information provided in the previous reply is spot-on. If you want to actually "walk" the route from the Ecole Militaire Metro stop to Rue Cler, use Google Street View. Bon Vogage!
Thank you both for the prompt reply. I've stayed in Rue Cler before but only after arriving by air.
