Hello Travel Lovers, My daughter and I are going to be flying from Dublin to Edinburgh (among other places) this year and I'm trying to plan out our days. We want to take a 6am departure flight, but I'm wondering if it will be difficult to find a taxi to take us to the airport early enough to catch that flight? I feel like surely you can order a taxi for whenever you need, but I'm not quite sure. So can you? Sorry if this is a dense question, but I wouldn't want to wait till I'm there to find this one out. Thanks,
Shelly
The bus from downtown Dublin doesn't start running until about 7 am. You'll need to get to the airport several hours before 6 am so a cab is what you'll need. Any of the hotels can order you a cab or you can set it up yourself. Another option is to take the bus to the airport the day before and stay at a hotel by the airport that has a shuttle bus. I would confirm with them that the bus will be running when you need it.
While I haven't had to do this in Dublin, I have in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London and have had no trouble. Just have your hotel order the taxi. They will be familiar with the airports and the best taxi's. Pam
Thank you both. I feel much more at ease about the whole set up.
Do either of you have a recommendation for a hotel near the airport?
I've never stayed there so I recommend you check Trip Advisor. I thought about staying at the Holiday Inn at the airport but didn't. We did the early cab but we didn't have to leave as early as you will.
Generally most of the hotels at "heathrow" have had good reports on this site. Check them out and see what is in the price range you feel comfortable with and come back for more specific comments on your choices
We stayed at the Bewley's by the airport last year. Nice hotel, reasonable rates, not much by it but horses, but it does have a free shuttle to the airport. You should contact them, though, and see how early it runs. From the hotel, it takes about 10 minutes to get to the airport.
