Hi Rick. We are planning a short visit to Bergen and the Sognefjord, have found a lot of information and help in your guide to Scandinavia and on the Internet, but have two questions. We plan to go by train from Bergen to Myrdal, the Flamsbanen to Flam and overnight in Flam. We would like to take the tour of the Aurlandsfjorden and the Naeroyfjorden. Is there a bus service from Gudvangen back to Flam? On our second day on the Sognefjord area we would like to cross to Balestrand from Flam in the morning and spend a bit of time there before catching the express boat to Bergen from Balestand. Is there ferry service between Flam and Balestrand on the Sognefjord other than the express boat from Flam to Bergen? Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thank you.

ruth, I see that you address your question to Rick. I just would like you to know that Rick Steves and his staff do not contribute to this Helpline which is sponsored by his website. We are all volunteers here, fellow travelers who share our knowledge and experiences, and opinions. I'm sure that Scandinavian experts will rock up after a while to help you - its not my expertise.
Hi Nigel. thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize how the helpline worked. Ruth
Ruth,
My husband and I traveled the same area last summer. When planning our trip, I utilized the Fjord1 website as they are the major transportation (bus, boat, ferry) provider in the area. A couple of things: 1. We were able to take a bus from Flam to Gudvangen. A fairly short ride with much of the ride inside a tunnel. 2. We traveled the Naeroyfjorden and took the ferry to Kaupanger. This fjord is absolutely beautiful! We didn't travel the Aurland fjord. Looking at your plan, I wonder if you will be doing a lot of "extra" travel (by bus/getting back to Flam) by trying to see both fjords. 3. The Fjord1 website is www(.)fjord1(.)no Happy travels!
