Are there easy and frequent trains and /or buses to St Andrews, Sterling and surrounding area of Edinburgh. Also need hotel name within the town center.
Thank you
Pat,
My wife and I took the train out to Sterling while visiting Edinburgh. I recall that it went there a good number of times each day. Edinburgh is definitely a rail hub, so I don't forsee any problems getting to surrounding areas.
You can catch the train to many places from Edinburgh. Stirling, St. Andrews, Linlithgow, Glasgow, Perth, are all not far. If you want a small family hotel, I like the Inverleith near the Botanic Gardens. It's a short bus ride up the hill to Princes Street or the Royal Mile. I usually walked back down hill at the end of the day. You can buy a day ticket.

We like the Royal British. It is across the street from the station. Just a nice walk over to the Royal Mile. Good breakfasts, clean rooms.
I was going to ask the same question.
The train goes to Leuchars then bus into St. Andrews.
