Hi There! My 18 yr daughter and I are going to fly to Paris for a few days then take the chunnel to London. What is the best, least expensive way to get to our hotel in downtown London. We have never been before and I know St. Pancras is out of town, but not really sure of the distance we are talking. We will have our luggage, but can manage it to get on/off trains etc. Thanks in advance for any tips.
St Pancras station is located in central London; not outside of town. It's easy to reach the hotel via the Tube. From St Pancras take the Victoria line (direction Brixton) to Oxford Station (3 stops away). Then transfer to the Central line (directing Ealing Broadway or West Ruislip) and head to the Marble Arch station (2 stops away).
Actually, St. Pancras is in central London (Zone 1). From St. Pancras, follow the signs for the Underground (you'll depart from Kings Cross which is next door.) Catch the Victoria line southbound to Oxford Circus and transfer to the Central Line westbound. Get off at Marble Arch or Bond Street. Looks like Marble Arch is a teeny bit closer to your hotel - about a five minute walk.
thanks so much for the quick answer! One more question, that I'm not sure if you would know. I am wondering if the London Pass with Travel,do you know if it would cover this trip? I am thinking of buying before the trip, any advice is so appreciated. This is our first big trip alone without my husband. Just a little nervous.
:-)
Yes, the pass will cover this trip.
Many major museums in London are free. If you buy the London Pass, be sure that (1) the sites you want to see charge admission and (2) they are covered by the pass. If I were you, I wouldn't buy the tranport option that you can get with that pass. A travelcard or Oyster card will be much cheaper. See www.tfl.gov.uk. Buying a travelcard qualifies you for 2-for-1 offers. See here: www.daysoutguide.co.uk.
