Has anyone traveled London to Dublin recently who could share your details. Should we train from London to a port then ferry over is this an all day affair? Or should we fly? I understand there can be significant luggage restrictions, we will travel with one backpack and one carryon each. Not traveling until may. Thanks
Fly. Quicker. Less time consuming. Luggage restrictions vary. Ryan Air will be the most restrictive. Must say that seeing Eire through the clouds as you cross the channel is a sight to behold. You'll be saying, "It really is THAT green."
Aer Lingus, Ryan Air, Air France, British Airways all fly to Dublin. Sign up for Kayak alerts. Here's what the airfares are now: http://www.kayak.com/Cheap-Flights-London-to-Dublin.LON.DUB.co.html May is a lovely month to visit. Enjoy.
You can buy a cheap SailRail ticket for £38 (€45) that covers a train from London to Holyhead in Wales and a ferry from there to Dublin. See the Ireland page on seat61.com. Use the search engine skyscanner.com to see all your airline choices, both budget airlines and national carriers.
British Airways is less restrictive on the Baggage and surprisingly has cheap fares off and on. I took Ryan Air before the new baggage fees and they deterred me from using them again because that...they're getting tighter and tighter.
