I am planning the last leg of Scotland vacation. I am wondering what the best way to travel from Isle of Arran to Oban then to Fort William and on to the Distilleries. Thinking we will stay in fort William one night en route to Dufftown. It looks like very long travel times by ferry and train. Should I just rent a car for this part of this trip?
A car would make it easy and simple, but first things first. Arron's an odd starting point, how are you getting yourself there? Or is your list just not quite in order? Second thing, which way do you want to leave Arran - - onto the Kintyre or across the Firth of Clyde? The devil's in the stinking details sometimes.
Ed makes a good point. Good luck finding a car hire place on the Kintyre side, and if you are getting the ferry to Ardrossan then I think the nearest place would be in Irvine. Finding a national hire company where you could drop off in a different location would mean going to Enterprise in Kilmarnock or Avis at Prestwick airport.
