Transport from Hawes Pier/South Queensberry to Edinburgh Castle?

Coming in on ship for one-day stop in Edinburgh. First time in city. Will be in South Queensberry at Hawes Pier. Taxi my best alternative for getting to Edinburgh Castle? Suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Are you sure it's stopping at Hawes Pier? If so, I'd recommend a taxi. That's out past the airport and any bus connections would probably involve a transfer. That would probably chew up too much time on a short cruise stop. I think that the major cruise lines dock at the Edinburgh Ocean Terminal which is near where the royal yacht Brittanica is docked. I could definitely be wrong since I've never been on a big cruise ship in Edinburgh or anywhere. If you land near Brittanica, Bus 11 is probably your best choice. Bus 22 is reasonably direct and will get you close to the Royal Mile.

Yes, it's apparently Hawes Pier. I checked with the cruise line. They have to use tenders to transport folks in at this particular location -- South Queensferry, Hawes Pier. If this location is out past the airport, it sounds rather spend to take a cab. Thanks for the info. regarding the buses.

The airport isn't very far out from the center of Edinburgh. It's only a 3.50 GBP bus ride. I'll guess that Hawes Pier is probably close to 10 miles from Edinburgh Castle. If you have time, I'd definitely come to the center. I can't imagine the cruise line just dumping everyone off there without some sights to see or activities to do. I also expect there to be cabs available.

I'll look for a cab at the pier. Seems to be one of those times to "bite the bullet" and pay the cab fee -- because of so short a time in the city. Will do castle, walk Royal Mile, do one-hour bus tour, and try to make Nat'l Museum; probably silly to think we'll get it all in, but who knows? Any changes, additions you'd suggest? Thanks for your help.
