Transfer between STN Stansted London and LHR HEathrow London late at night

We are arriving around 10:30 pm into Stanstead-STN London and need to transfer to Heathrow-LHR London around 11 pm. What's the best/cheapest way to do this? We are a family of 5 each with a carry on bag (easy travelers)--want a less expensive route considering there are five of us if we were to take a bus transfer at $30/ticket adds up quickly!

Do you seriously want to land at Stansted at 10:30pm and get to Heathrow HALF AN HOUR later? That is completely impossible at any time of day, a truly insane schedule, and you need to give any travel agent who sold it to you a kicking! Stansted to central London by express train takes over 45 minutes platform to platform, not including immigration and luggage collection, and you still need to get to Heathrow.

Agree that I hope you have a typo. You couldn't make a connection WITHIN Heathrow in half-hour!

Let me clarify: I meant we would hopefully be catching transport around 11 pm in order to simply head over to Heathrow. Our flight doesn't depart until 8 am. I'm aware of the distance. Cool your jets.

National Express (www.nationalexpress.com) have a coach leaving Stansted at 2359 for Heathrow. I don't think unfortunately that you'll get a price much cheaper than that (quoted me £25 per person) at that time of night. You might possibly get there a bit cheaper by train and tube (train from Stansted Airport to Tottenham Hale, Victoria Line tube to Finsbury Park, Piccadilly Line tube to Heathrow), but the last Piccadilly Line train to Heathrow leaves Finsbury Park at 00:16 and if you miss it it'll mean a lot of messing around with night buses.

Thank you, Phillip. That's helpful. We've ridden the Natl Express beforebut maybe that's the only way. I was trying to find out info about the timing on the Picadilly line and you've said it rightwe'd be in deep weeds if we missed that last one. I was hoping they ran all night long ;) Is there anything from Paddington Station, and does it run through the night?

"cool your jets" ... been a while since I heard that one ... takes me back. Going from Paddington means, as it is obvious you are a previous traveler, means getting to Paddington first. Sounds to me like a pre arranged taxi is the way to go for 5 folk, and to just go directly there....

yes, former flight attendant. ha...cool your jets dates me, eh? Thank you, Nigel. That's helpful. I see options are limited so late at night. Maybe we'll sleep near STN and hoof it over in the morning. What time does public transit wake up in the morning in London?--I was surprised it goes to sleep.

Susan, check times on the last Tube/train to Heathrow carefully. Pretty sure nothing is available after 1am, with most lines shutting down not too long after midnight. If it was me, I'd opt for the Nat Express bus to Heathrow.

The last trains from Paddington to Heathrow are 2310 for the fast Heathrow Express and 2303 for the Heathrow Connect, so that won't work either.

That's good to know-scratch that off the possibility list. I guess I should just be glad the Ryan Air tix were so cheap from Spain (REU) to STN : ) I truly appreciate this information.

I would bet that for five people, the CHEAPEST and QUICKEST option would be a hire car, if you book well in advance.

If your flight leaves heathrow at 8 am- you need to spend the prior night at (or within close distance from ) Heathrow. Check in and security at Heathrow could easily take 3 hoyrs when they are busy
