I thought I read that having reservations on Britain trains was never necessary. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone had experience taking late trains from York back to London? Are they crowded? We are wanting to catch the 9:30 after the "York Ghost Tour" on a Thursday.

You do not need reservations for the train and it won't be crowded at that time of day. The only time that you should have reservations if you want a sleeper for an over night trip.

We' go between York and London often. We never left after 5:00, but have never had problems. That late should be NO problem at all.
