We are going down to London from Edinburgh and the train is more expensive but I'm thinking we'll see some of the scenery along the way. Anybody know if you see the countryside that's worth the extra money?
Thanks!

In my experience, the scenery alone isn't worth the extra expense but the comfort of taking a train, rather than a flight, is. That said, there is certainly some scenery as you depart Scotland (sheep!)that you might find worthwhile.
While the standard 2nd class fare is expensive (over 100 GBP), if you book well in advance at www.eastcoast.co.uk, you can get a discount fare as low as 12 GBP. Discount fare tickets are released about 10-12 weeks in advance and they sell out quickly so book ASAP.
I haven't taken the trip myself, but I've read several posts by people who say that the first section south of Edinburgh is quite beautiful.
Julie - Our family used EASTCOAST.CO.UK last summer for tickets from London-Inverness, Inverness-Edinburgh, & Edinburgh-London and saved a bundle. If you can book far enough in advance the fare for 2 people from EDI-LON is as little as £26.00. Ticket retrieval was a piece of cake. Any other questions send me a pm. Happy travels.
The train ride is plesant and you don't have the hassle of getting out to the airport and back into town on arrival, security -oh joy :( , luggage restrictions, arriving early adn waiting, etc. that you have with flights. Try for the discount fares.
Julie, I've done both. There is some nice scenery in the north and it's fun to go by Durham and York. Once you're south of York it's not all that scenic. But, it is easier as Toni points out. You don't have to worry about your luggage, on some trips you have free wifi, you can get up and walk around, and it takes you right into the city. I use flights when I'm going straight home from Edinburgh. This year, I'll be taking the train from Inverness to Edinburgh and the next day catch a plane from Edinburgh to London and on to Chicago and Wisconsin.

I did it over a day, taking the train to York, doing a walking tour, then back on the train. It was very cheap, 20-30 pounds all in. I enjoyed it, and enjoyed the scenery.
