We're taking the train from London (Kinds Cross Station) to Edinburgh in September on the Eastern Line. I was wondering if there was a "better" side of the train for views?
About an hour or so south of Edinburgh, you run along the North Sea Coast. People seated on the right, facing forward, get the best views. Otherwise, I don't think there's much difference. For the first 50-100 miles out of London, the scenery is best ignored: industrial wasteland.
'Industrial wasteland' might be a bit strong. Assuming you are going up the East Coast (from Kings Cross), sit on the right. On the right you will see Peterborough Cathedral, Doncaster Minster, York Minster, the North York Moors, Durham Cathedral, Lumley Castle, The Angel of the North, The Tyne Bridge and Millennium Bridge, Warkworth Castle, Alnmouth Village, a great view of Berwick as the train curves over the Border Bridge and stunning coastline north of there.
I agree those are all great sites to see. so do sit on the right (East) side of the train. It's a nice trip. Pam
Fair enough, Mark. Still, the route out of London is not exactly scenic. But, it is easily short of an hour.
Thanks everyone for taking the time respond to my request for information - I really appreciate it. We're looking forward to visiting Edinburgh and Scotland for the very first time!
