Train travel in Ireland

What is the train travel like in Ireland? Is it pretty easy to use? Does it go most places? How does it compare to train travel in England?

Hi Josie,

I've not yet been to either country, but am busy planning my trip. It seems to me that train travel in England can be very confusing but that you have a lot more choices. For the 4 of us though, even with discounted tickets, it's looking like renting a car will be a better choice but for you & your daughter, I'd use public transportation.

On the other hand, you could go to both, just spend some time on the internet looking at train routes and plan your trip accordingly. It sounds like fun!

Train travel in Ireland is very limited, particularly in the west. In some areas it's nonexistent. The bus routes, however, fill in the gap.
