A friend needs to purchase train tickets for a day trip, London to Bath Spa, to meet up with a Mad Max Tour. This will be the only rail trip for this vacation; what would be the least expensive way to purchase tickets for the 3 of them?
You can buy tickets at the RR station. That will be the cheapest way. I would suggest doing that the day before you need them.
The walk up 2nd class fare is 46 GBP. Your friend can book tickets in advance at www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk and pick them up at a Fast Ticket machine at Paddington Station. Fares start at 9 GBP. Start checking for availability about 60 days in advance. If no cheap fares are shown, then wait and enter a date between 30 and 60 days in advance. Do a dummy booking using current dates to see all options.
Thanks Tim and Carl! You have just saved them a mint!
