I am arriving in Copenhagen on 7/18/2012 and want to take a train to Kalmar. Where can I find train schedule and prices? Also for the return trip. Thanks.
Eva
http://www.sj.se/start/startpage/index.form?l=en The Swedish rail system is known as "SJ" Take note that most reservations can only be made no more than 60-90 days ahead. But schedules and prices do not vary much, if at all. So to guess what it would cost and when, simply enter a phantom date sometime in the next 60 days and see what comes up. I looked for a date two weeks from now and found the 2nd class fare for about $55. Remind yourself to make the actual reservation some time next May. Since most rail service never has "sell-outs" you could likely purchase tickets just a couple days ahead, or even on the day of, though it is possible the ticket prices might be a little higher then.
I don't think you need to worry about the train selling out. Copenhagen's downtown train station has an information booth in the middle of the station that can help you get your ticket, both ways, there. There is a left luggage downstairs if you have to wait for a train going straight to Kalmar. Train tickets are pretty expensive and I don't know of any great discount options (someone else may know).
Hi Eva, You need no worry. There is an hourly train service from downtown Copenhagen via the airport and over the Oresund Strait to Sweden and Kalmar, and it does not require pre-reserved seat purchase (local commuter train). If you arrive at CPH, after luggage retrieving and Customs, you exit into the arrival hall, and just 50 meters straight ahead to the right, you'll find a ticket counter, and ticket vending machines, with the DSB (Danish State Railways) sign above for train ticket purchases. I guess that Kalmar is about 1-1.5 hours ride from the airport. The actual train platform is downstairs via an escalator. Very easy! Happy travel.
