Train or plane, London to Paris?

We are going to be staying near Victoria Station and want to leave early for Paris on departure day. Do you recommend taking the Eurostar or going to Luton Airport to fly? How long does it take to get to the train station and Luton from that area of London?

There is nothing really to commend flying between the centre of London and Paris. It takes much longer flying, normally will be much more expensive and the train is a much more civilised and comfortable journey than flying.

Going easyJet and factoring in transfers either end you'll be doing well to do the complete journey in under 5 hours, compared with the Eurostars 2 hours

Let's put it this way...assuming I take the train and you fly....and we leave at the same time...I'll be sipping coffee in Paris while you are still at Luton waiting to board.

Take the train. And buying tickets in advance will save you lots of money.

Do no forget the bus. Less luggage problems, and since you are close to the bus station, easy access. You do not say when you are going. I looked at Jan. timetable and from London to Paris it can be as short as 8.5 hours and cost £26.00 per adult. If you decide to take the bus, be there 30 minutes early. You have to check in and show your passport.

You can also travel overnight. leave at 22:30 and arrive in Paris at 07:30- 9hrs overnight. It saves a hotel night and you get a ferry ride to boot.

Take the Eurostar - it's super easy, reasonable price and gets you there fast.

Take the Eurostar. Be sure to book well in advance at www.eurostar.com to get the cheapest fares. Even though you aren't one, register on the site as a resident of the UK to get a single (one-way) fare as low as 35 GBP.

It's an 11-minute ride on the Victoria line from Victoria to King's Cross/St Pancras. It will take you less than ten minutes to walk from the Underground station to St Pancras International train station.

Don't forget that there is a check-in deadline of 30 minutes for the Eurostar.

At St Pancras Station there are shops and stores. You can buy food for the trip at a grocery there. However, the trip is so short you may want to wait a couple more hours and get something really terrific to eat in Paris.

We bought our tickets online using the UK site, (prices were a bit cheaper than the US site) and used the option to have the tickets mailed free of charge to our home address in the US. We received them in a little over a week.

Definitely Eurostar. Buy your tickets as soon as you know which day you will travel. I think you can do it up to 120 days ahead. Tickets are cheaper. Price advertised was as low as 68 dollars, unfortunately I booked it 119 days ahead and it was already US$ 99. I printed my ticket on my home printer so you don't have to bother them with mailing. Train took 2 hours 16 minutes from St.Pancras Station in London to Gare du Nord in Paris. Going by plane from Downtown to Downtown would take much longer and probably would be more expensive, too especially when you add the price of getting to and from the airport.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I booked our tickets on the Eurostar tonight and was able to get 4 seats for on 128 BP. Your help is much appreciated!

Wow! You got a good deal on those tickets.

What UK address do you folks put?

We've travelled by the Eurostar about three times, and it's really the only way to go when trying to get to Paris. Love it! We did fly from London to Paris with BA last year and it was not a hassle. We were going from Abingdon to Heathrow though.

Eli,

You don't enter a UK address. You simply register as a resident of the UK. Clear the cookies from your Web browser. Then go to www.eurostar.com. You'll be asked to pick a country of residence. Choose the UK.
