We went to visit family in Cornwall ten years ago and spent most of the day on the train getting there, then a night coach coming back (wayyy too uncomfortable on the night bus, yuck). Has anyone got any thoughts on hiring a car/driver to take us down and bring us back after a couple of days? We can take the train if we have to, but I would love to hear your experiences. Thanks.
Hi Jan,
We are doing 3 days in Cornwall next March. Travelling to and from by train. Our early research indicates that there are plenty of tourist and local buses to get you around once you get there. We will base oursevles in Penzance.
Walk-up open 2nd class train tickets from London to Penzance are £120. Advance fares booked online are as little as £15. These fares usually become available 30-60 days in advance. See the timetables and fares at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
Hiring a driver and car could be very expensive. You can take a Ryanair flight from London Stanstead to Newquay in Cornwall - it might be worth looking into.
