What is the best way to get to Cardiff, Wales from Heathrow airport October 2010? Very discouraging online advice regarding doing this.
I'm not sure what's discouraging - if you post what you're worried about maybe someone can help.
There are no direct trains from Heathrow so you have two obvious choices. (There are other ways using the tube or changing trains at odd local stations.)
1) Take the train into London (Paddington) and then change to the Cardiff train.
2) Take the bus from the airport into Reading and then get the train from there.
Train times can be found at http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/ amongst other places. There's a site called the London Toolkit that has all sorts of transfer details, including this one -I'm sure someone will be along with a link shortly.
Thanks for this. It looks like a good option. Others have said this is expensive and requires several transfers, etc. It looks fine to me. Appreciate your time.
You can travel directly from Heathrow to Cardiff on a National Express coach (highway bus). Go here for timetables and fares.
Thanks for bus information. This looks more direct. Am looking for a scenic way to do this.
We did the bus and loved the trip.
I would say the bus and train will be equally scenic, so opt for the fastest/ easiest trip, which is probably the bus.
Cardiff is great- PM me for more info on south Wales if you like.
