Check the Britrail site...I believe they have package deals with the Ferries if you buy a non-stop ticket.

See the Ireland page on www.seat61.com for detailed information on the train-ferry-train from London to Dublin.

Its a long long time since I took the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. But the train from London goes from Euston. As the above poster said I would check out seat61.com to get better information.

Matt, I have done this journey a few times in the last couple years. You are right that both Stena and Irish Ferries have a "rail and sail" deal. Advance purchase is not necessary (and there is no discount), however advance purchase does allow you to pick your seats on the train. I have shown up on the morning of and booked the walk on that way. You can check with either of their websites to book this. You can also sail in and out of Dublin Port on both of these with rail and sail as well. www.thetrainline.com allows you to book ahead - I have had luck with them. It's a beautiful train journey across England, through Wales, and the ferry is relaxing. I much prefer it to flying from London (and area) airports, find it a more reasonable prices (transport to airport, flight, etc) and it really doesn't add a lot more travel time. Enjoy!
