I have been using www.eastcoast.co.uk to book train reservations in other parts of the UK. However, I can't seem to get from Conwy, Wales to York on Sunday, 16 Sept with less than 4 changes. The earliest train available departs at 4:15pm and arrives in York at 8:30pm! There are 2 earlier trains, but the site says they're unavailable. If we depart Conwy one day previous (on Saturday), we can leave early with only 2 changes required! What don't I know about Sunday trains? Why only 2 changes on Sat, but 4 on Sunday? Is there another website offering better connections?
Why can't you find what you wanted? The day you wanted is right at the limit of released tickets. I've just found several connections, but I only use the official National Rail Enquiries for all my research. Why do the trains start later on Sundays? Because railway workers like your present correspondent like to sleep in one morning of the week - and lots of rail maintenance takes place at night and on weekends. I see an 11:16 departure that day with an 18 minute connection in Chester and a 27 minute connection in Newton-le-Willows for a total time of 4:21. There's a 3 connection at 13:59 but 2 of the connections are quite close, both under 10 minutes. The 16:15 is also just like the 11:16 but 2 minutes slower. Can you try again?
