What is the best way to get from Bruges to Amsterdam via train? We are taking Eurostar from London to Bruges via Brussels but were hoping to catch a more "local" train to Amsterdam. Thanks in advance for any help.
Kevin, I took the train about a year ago from Brugges to Amsterdam. I had to change in Brussels. It took about 4 hours. I did it on a Saturday and ended up catching an earlier train to Brussels than I had planned which turned out to be a good thing as I got a seat - the train was sitting in the station at Brussels. But later people were hard pressed to find a place as it got very crowded. I think that there are other routes, but this one worked for me. Pam
Take the inter-city trains, you typically change trains in Antwerp, sometime Brussels; there are connections every hour . No advance reservations necessary, simply purchase your ticket at the station on the day of your journey. Check schedules at this site: http://www.nshispeed.nl/en. When checking the schedules, you will also see connections via the high-speed Thalys train. These trains do require advance reservations, and are pricey to purchase at the last minute. For the non-reserved trains, stick with the IC trains for the entire journey.
