We will end our biking tour in Galway on August 18th. We
are planning to take the train to Dublin, but would like
visit/stay elsewhere on Sat. before going to Dublin on
Sunday. Any suggestions, especailly regarding low cost
accomodations?

Can't think of any, unless you detour to Northern Ireland. Then I would visit Derry and Giant's Causeway.

I would suggest that you visit Clonmacnoise Co Offaly - the ancient monastic ruin with round towers and Celtic crosses. It is situated right on the Shannon river and really beautiful.
