Hello, We are arriving in London on a Friday in October- trying to figure out if it is best to go to the Tower of London in the afternoon around 3 or on Saturday or Sunday morning at opening? We have a toddler, not sure if that needs to be included. Thank you.
I'd go when it opens on Sunday. The Tower can get absolutely RAMMED with people - Saturday afternoons are so bad that my husband has actually never made it in, since we've only ever been able to try later on a weekend afternoon, and he takes one look at the lines and crowds and says "let's go to the pub instead!" Sunday morning will be a bit more do-able. And a toddler will be less likely to get misplaced in a sea of adult legs! But do not in any way let me put you off. The Tower is just kinda... wow. Really really worth it.
I was there a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning just as they opened and had no problem getting in. By noon however the place was really mobbed.
The toddler's condition may be the determiner. A rested, happy child would make any serious traveling work better. I mean timing by the child's nap time, meal time, etc.
Thank you for your advice! I think we'll go Sunday morning. Our little guy is a champ, unless we are standing in line, so now the question is: buy tickets online? Or, for those who have gone at opening, any trouble getting your tickets? I have seen them on 365tickets.com for 5 quid less than the door price, but I know nothing about that website. Thanks!
Follow Rick's advice: get there as early as poossible, head right to the Crown Jewels, then join up with a "Beefeater" Tour. You can see everything and be out of there by midday so the toddler can get a nap.
The weather may affect traditionally busy times. I was there on a Sunday, early afternoon, in September. It rained almost all day and there was no line to get in, nor were any of the sights within the complex very crowded. However, it was hard to enjoy the grounds.
