Tour Scotland in 5 days

My husband, 2 children (age 9 and 7 years old) and I are planning a trip to Scotland and would like to spend 2 days in Edinburgh. We wanted to rent a car to visit the "must see" around Scotland where the kids can enjoy and have fun.
We want our trip to be memorable. Please your suggestions are appreciated.

We spent 4 days in Aviemore last month, using it as a base hiking and for visiting Inverness/Loch Ness too. Old town Stirling was very nice as well, worth a couple of days for me. Enjoy!

River rafting in Perthshire maybe
If coming soonish, theres still plenty of snow at Cairngorm, see wineterhighland.com
Aviemore would be a good base for a couple of days, lots of outdoors activities theere, and maybe only 3 hours from Edinburgh

theres quite a few tepee campsites thats different.

I agree that Aviemore makes a great base. There is a restored steam train that does trips along the Spey river. You can take the funicular up Mr. Caringorm for some wonderful views. There are walks, hikes, and lots of fun nature stuff at Rothmurchie estate, even canoeing on the Loch. Nearby is a reindeer reserve. We don't drive in the UK. The train ride from Edinburgh to Aviemore is nice. Across from the train station is the hotel we love- The Caringorm. It looks like a small castle on the outside and a Scottish Hunting Lodge inside. It's resturant serves THE BEST food ever and a piper plays on the front porch each evening in summer.

If you don't want Aviemore, consider Inverness as a base. Again you can use the train. There are lots of good day trips and plenty of great tour comapnies that use small vans. We have used Puffin Tours alot.
