Is there a resource or a guide that can assist one in a walking tour of the mystical sites of Glastonbury. We only have one day and day tour was quite expensive for us. We would really like to visit the sites ourselves by foot.
Glastonbury Abbey is right in the town. You can walk or drive to the foot of the Tor and climb it(not especially difficult). When we went up on our second visit (the first time we had torrential July rain), there were several guides there who were happy to explain things. (Small donation expected.) Are there other "mystical sites" there that you wish to see? We also visited Cadbury Hill which is about ten miles away. Also in the vicinity is Wells Cathedral, not especially mystical, but a lovely spot.
Rick has ~4 pages of description of what you're looking for, in the Near Bath chapter of his book, England (not his Great Britain book, rather his England book). He includes a handy map showing the Abbey, Chalice Well, and Tor.We found it to be a...well...a mystical experience exploring these 3 places! Feeling a place with all your senses and not just your brain. Enjoy!
In addition to Rick's book, check out these websites:http://www.crystalinks.com/glastonburytor.htmlhttp://www.isleofavalon.co.uk/gpt/chalicewell.htmlhttp://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Somerset/Glastonbury-312483/Things_To_Do-Glastonbury-BR-1.htmlAnd you can find more websites by going to Google Advanced Search and entering the following search string (or a similar one) in the all of these words box: glastonbury tor chalice well abbey
Glastonbury is tiny so you could definitely just cobble together your own tour using a guide book or some information from the web. I would try and read up about the abbey before you go. It's the sort of place where you just want to drift about experiencing it all rather than peering at a book.
The Abbey tea rooms in Glastonbury are worth visiting as the cakes and puddings are amazing (especially the sticky toffee pudding!).
