We would like to tour some of the English countryside. Our hotel recommends Evan Evans tours and they have a big bus going to the Cotswolds, stopping at Warwick Castle, Oxford and Stratford on Avon. This sounds like a long day, but we see alot. Down side - big bus and you don't have any control over how long to stay, etc. Has anyone used a driver to see these sights? Names and prices? Thanks,
Marie, Another option would be to stay in Bath for a few days and take one of the day tours of the Cotswolds with Mad Max Tours. These tours are conducted in smaller mini-Buses, with a maximum group size of 16. In my experience, these provide a more relaxed and informal atmosphere. Happy travels!
When we stayed in Stratford-upon-Avon, once, we did a 1/2 day tour of the Cotswolds. We booked at the tourist information office. Got to see several small villages, stopped for tea in one. It wall enough for us. Haven't done Oxford (though you can do similar tours there from s-u-a, too) or Warwick (same thing). Have heard good and bad things about Warwick castle. You can easily get to Stratford-upon-Avon by train from London. If you don't want to spend the whole day seeing the town and Shakespear stuff, you could do the 1/2 day cotswold tour in the afternoon (after seeing something of the town- it is very nice)and take a late train back to London.
The Cotswolds deserve more then a day...there is a company in Bourton on the Water that does several different types of tours in the area....tourgems.com...I think you would really enjoy them. You might want to consider taking the train to Moreton in Marsh, then taxi to Bourton on the Water and spend on night.
