Is there a tour that will take us to Stonehenge and to Cotswold on a day trip?
Can you recommend a good tour company? Thank you.
I've heard that Evan Evans is a reputable company. http://www.evanevanstours.co.uk/index.htm. You can check out their offerings online. Their day trips from London don't combine Stonehenge and the Cotswolds. Because, I assume, the distances involved are too great. As noted in Wikipedia, the Cotswolds are a range of hills in southwestern and west-central England, an area 25 miles (40 km) across and 90 miles (145 km) long. Do you have in mind a specific destination within the Cotswolds? On my next trip, if I don't rent a car, I may take a small-group Cotswolds day tour based from Bath, which is much better located for that purpose than London. http://www.madmaxtours.co.uk/ Happy travels!
London Walks is a good tour company with some trips out of London. Go to www.walks.com and scroll down the page; on the left side will be a list of options; click on "Day Trips From London". There you will find a day trip to the Cotswolds and a separate trip to Stonehenge.
Yes we used Gray Line Tours, who sub out the tours to Evans Evans. We did day trips around London, to Stonehenge, the Cotswolds, Windsor Castle, etc. Gray Line/Evans are great. Sometimes you meet the bus at Victoria Station. Sometimes the bus picks you up near your hotel. You can go to Gray Line Tours.com and see the tour choices.
Looks like I can not do both of these places on the same day or tour. So, we'll probably just check out Stonehenge. We were hoping to get one that leaves and drops off at Victoria Station because we are staying nearby. Some say they pick up there but drop you off somewhere else. Is there one that does round trip?
We enjoyed the Cotswolds a lot more than Stonehenge. You just get out and walk around the perimeter of Stonehenge. It is on a busy street with lots of traffic. It is very crowded. You lok at it and you leave; that is it. Nothing to write home about.
I looked at the Evan Evans site as a reminder. Most tours to either Cotswolds or to Stonehenge add other sights- eg Blenheim, bath, salisbury etc; so you get to see a number of places on your tour. The time at Stonehenge is adequate to allow you to get a good look. I love the Cotswolds and usually spend at least three or four days there- however, on a coach trip, you really only get a glimpse of the Cotswolds (plus probably lunch in one of the villages)- so it'll just be a tiny taste of the Cotswolds - not a full blown meal (lunch pun unintended); Choose a tour that includes sights on your to do list. However, in my opinion- dont choose one that includes windsor, that is more easliy (and more meaningful) done on your own by train from London I am bisaed though, I believe stonehenge- no matter what the conditions, is one of the sights you absolutely have to see in your lifetime.(the road is not that busy, besides you barely notice it; and the "crowds' are really not "crowds"- there is alot of space around the stones and you can see it at your own pace- uninterupted)
I think we might book a tour that goes to a few places and so we can see more of the countryside too.
