Which hotels did you stay at on the city tour? I'm trying to price whether it would be cheaper for me to plan a trip on my own --- seeing the same sights and staying at a similar/same hotel that the tour does. Versus signing up for the tour itself. I have to make my decision soon as I see that some of the tours are filling fast. Thank you.
And I meant to clarify... it's the Rick Steves Tours that I'm speaking of.
About ten years ago I was on the London tour (RS). We stayed at one hotel; it was the Lime Tree in the Victoria area. The RS tours usually stay at fairly nice places; for a city tour only one hotel is used. You can probably do London on your own cheaper. You will miss out on the comraderie and group dinners that go with the tours. Taking a tour saves you time and the need to figure out everything for yourself. In that way, a tour can be a more efficient way to enjoy an area. We were provided with a 7-day Underground pass, a tour of St Paul's and The City, a river trip down to Greenwich, entrance to the Tower of London, a daytrip to Stonehenge and Bath. Our RS guide oriented us to the use of the Underground (Tube) system and traveled with us to the British Museum. We had a walking tour of the area between our hotel and Buckingham Palace. I think we went to Westminster Abbey, also. In addition to breakfasts, 2-3 dinners and a 2 lunches were part of the tour. As part of our RS tour we probably got the RS book for London or England plus a moneybelt. Read the current tour descriptions for details. The tours change from year to year.
This is the website of a currently utilized hotel:http://www.washington-mayfair.co.uk/ It is the confirmed hotel for June 23 tour.
