Titanic in Ireland

We had not planned to go to Belfast on our itinerary in our limited time, but thought we would see some Titanic things elsewhere if anyone had input about it...but now they have opened the new titanic museum in Belfast!!!!!

melissa, There was a lengthy article about the new Titanic Museum in the morning paper today. It looks really interesting! It was still under construction when I was in Belfast a few years ago, so I guess I'll have to make a return visit to see the Museum. I've always been interested in the story of the Titanic, especially as some of my family may have worked to build it. Cheers!

I watched what ever I could find online about the museum and so far have only seen the items we saw on the excellent tour that was in Seattle and another one in Victoria , BC. I have read lots of books on the Titanic and am very interested in the subject but hate to take away from my daughters planned out itinerary to see what I have already seen done well, though no doubt the facility they have it in is awesome. I will hear more as the months go by, but won't change her reservations based on what I have seen so far. We did plan to see the other Titanic related exhibits in the south end of Ireland before weheard of this. We have planned a trip from dublin, to kinsale, to dingle to Galway to clifton and back to dublin, seeing all we can along the way and staying a min of two nights in each location and some three. Our main interest is the countryside and celtic music as she is a harpist.

Melissa, We have our tickets already reserved for May 23rd to see this. I can give you a report when I get back but I am super excited about it. From the images, reports and sneak peaks, it looks like this was done very nicely. Thanks,
tracey

It's a small island. Have you expressed your desire to see the new museum? Nice highway to follow North from Dublin to Belfast. 2 hour drive at most. Be awful to miss it since it's so close and itineraries can be rearranged.

you may want to check out the Titanic Trail in Cobh- the last port of call for the Titanic. I stayed there for 2 nights back in 2007. The guide Dr. Michael Martin was brilliant as they like to say in Ireland. http://www.titanic.ie/ There are quite a few trains that go from Dublin to Belfast. You could hop on the train in the morning and go back in the evening.

hhmmm. read reviews of new Titanic Belfast museum on tripadvisor and they are not going well. Will continue to monitor as time goes on to see if they get the lines and the ride working. Everyone disappointed about the grand staircase not being on the tour as its reserved only for private functions. Thank you for all your suggestions. Maybe we'll try to loop around north too. Would LOVE to see EVERYTHING if one only could! But Rick says something like coming back again for the next trip. melissa
