Traveling to GB next month, we may find ourselves needing taxis in Cambridge, Edinburgh and Newcastle upon Tyne. So I guess I merely need to know if tipping taxi drivers there is a-expected and b0 what the going rate is. Thanks.
Tipping taxi drivers is not as prevalent outside London as within, but many people choose to do it. The amount is really up to you and your experience, but the average tip from independent surveys is 9%.
Thanks.
Hi jeff 10%

Just got back from Scotland and London. Typically for a taxi you could round up the rate 10% and that would be plenty. Be careful in restaurants though because some of them add a service chargs AND a gratuity. Even if they dont, do not tip more than 10%. The servers there make a good wage, $6.00+ an hour, and tipping like we do here is not expected. Check the bill before giving a tip, and if you do they prefer it in cash rather than on your credit card.
$6.00 an hour is a good wage?
The UK minimum wage rates per hour are £6.19 (c. $9.90) for 21 and over, £4.98 (c. $7.97) for 18-20, and £3.68 (c. $5.88) for 16-17.
