Suggestions for the best way to get tickets to SOM? I have read some of the other threads. The multiple prices at the different ticket venders are so confusing and vary widely. We need 7 tickets which we can split up if necessary. So far Albemarle is the most expensive and the on-line box office is cheaper, but they all are very expensive. How do you know if this show would be available at the Leicester Square 1/2 price box? Or is it only listed there on the day of the show? In other words can I buy them from that office in the US over the phone or online?
Also, I notice some vendors didn't have good seats for the day I was looking and some had better seats. Finally, the star Summer Strallon will be on vacation while we are in London. Does the understudy sing her part if she isn't there? Thanks.
EK: Check Londontown.com. They have a dinner+show for TSOM. The tickets are the same price but at least dinner is included. (http://www.londontown.com/TheatreAndDinner/Search)
If you really want to see the show, I wouldn't assume that the 1/2 price box office has it. I would rely on the Leicester Square only if you have a "take it or leave it attitude."
If you want to determine the likelihood of finding the tickets at the TKTS booth, check this site. It is updated daily to show which shows have availability for the day.

You won't know if the show will be available at the TKTS booth on the day that you want until that day.
Theatremonkey.com is very helpful for seeing info about seats and ticket vendors. The different vendors tack on different service fees.

Another option is to go in person to the theatre box office and buy the tickets after you arrive. Of course, this only works if the show is not sold out. The price will not be less, but you will usually avoid the service charge and you will be able to talk to someone about the different options like splitting up.
