Three days southern Ireland with teens!

Will be in Dublin for four days then still have three days (June 30-July 3) to see some more of Ireland before flying off to Rome. Dad traveling with three teenage kids (13/17/18) . My thought is southern Ireland. The family lineage goes back through Kilkenny...thought we would head that way first day (can't leave Dublin until noon). Spend night somewhere in that area. then off toward coast...maybe Doolin? Then toward Shannon to fly out on July 3rd. Would appreciate recommendations!

Something like this might work - it gives you a nice mix of ruins and scenery: Day 1, drive to Glendalough, on to Kilkenny.........Day 2, drive to Cashel, maybe Cahir Castle, Kenmare, drive part of the Ring of Beara. Overnight in Kenmare............Day 3, choice of more of the Ring of Beara or the Ring of Kerry or do the Gap of Dunloe trip with jaunting cart and return by boat. You could stay again in Kenmare or Killarney.............If your July 3 flight is early morning, you might want to head up to Shannon area instead - maybe do the Bunratty Castle banquet which is touristy but also fun...........I checked distances on google maps - it all looks quite doable distance-wise.

I agree with Cynthia, get out and see Glendalough, on to Kilkenny and out to Cashel. After that, maybe you might try to get out to the Blarney Castle. Since you've got three days, another option is the Ring of Dingle; it's approximate. 30 miles around vs. the 120 miles on the Ring of Kerry. I also think that you all would enjoy making your way up to Doolin and seeing the Cliff of Moher - that is a must on my trip! Also, ask the kids what they would like to see; get a couple of travel books of Ireland from your local library, have them thumb through it and see if there is anything that peeks their interest...three kids....three days...each one gets to plan a day's itinerary and they will learn a little more of their future destination.
