Things to do while transiting though London this Monday

We will be transiting though London this Monday- arriving at the Paddington station about 8.30am. We need to catch the Stansted Express at the Liverpool street station not later than 2.00pm. We are looking for suggestions for ways to use our time for our half day. We will be carrying Rick's backpacks and we will surely be jet lagged. We have oyster cards for the tube and buses. Any suggestions for an area to stop and safely store the bags, perhaps recommended place for an easy cheap meal and or attraction to visit enroot with fast easy connections to the Liverpool street station. If needed we can keep our bags with us but it might be easier if we could visit an attraction that would allow us to drop the bags while visiting+ Thanks for your reply

Paddington and Liverpool Street are both on the Circle tube line, about 6 stations apart, and there is a left luggage facility on Platform 10 at Liverpool Street. If you go straight there and leave your luggage you have various options. Tower Hill is one stop further round the Circle line, or the Central Line will take you down to St Paul's. If you are jet lagged and don't want to do much you could go to St Paul's, walk across the river to the New Tate, and sit in their coffee bar which has good views of the river. I'd then go back to near Liverpool Street for lunch. There are loads of pubs in the area. One that might be worth considering is the Brasserie Rocque http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/london/view/80288/Brasserie_Rocque BTW, the good news is that the forecast is for it to be dry on Monday! I'm kind of a broken record on this, but if you have more than a carryon apiece, take a cab from Paddington to Liverpool Street. The Tube is not luggage friendly.

I would your bags at Paddington, then take the tube to the Westminster tube stop (Circle Line). When you walk up the stairs you will see Westminster Abbey to your right, Westminster Bridge, Big Ben and the Parliament Buildings on your left. If you walk to the bridge you get a great view of the Eye and the Thames. You can take a Thames cruise, or walk down Whitehall to have lunch at a pub near Trafalgar Square. Or spend some time at the Cabinet War Rooms/ Churchill Museum (one of my favorite places in London). Have fun!
