Hi All, My wife and I would like to attend a couple of musicals while in London this May. What is the proper attire for attending the theater in London?
There's no dress code at any of the theaters in London. You'll see everything from dressy dresses and men in suits to short shorts and tank tops. I usually wear black pants, simple T shirt type top, scarf or 'big shirt' or blazer. Hubby wears dark dockers/khakis and a nice polo or simple botton up shirt. The very first time we went I took a dress and dress shoes and he took a suit- we both felt a bit over dressed.
thanks for the info!
neat and clean usually does it.
when i visit London in Winter i have done the theatre in neat slacks, white shirt and a good raincoat (no jacket). You may even find this useful in cold or rainy weather in Summer.
Brian I always go in whatever I'm wearing. Last week it was jeans, a slop shirt and an anorak. If you feel like dressing up a bit smarter that's fine too, although very smart would be overdressed unless you were at the Royal Opera. Alan
I have never come across any dress codes for London theaters, so there is no hard and fast attires for it. Be in what you are comfortable and confident.
thanks everyone--i really appreciate all the advice!
You will see all sorts of clothing. Usually DH wears khakis and a button- up shirt and I wear black with color on top.....Please be aware that if it is a warm day, some of those theatres, particularly Dominion, Criterion, and St. Martin's Theatres, get REALLY hot and stuffy.
